I look forward to Karen’s cooking classes. She puts a lot of effort into making sure you understand the prep before the class starts, and I appreciate that it is a manageable time of one hour or so. I always learn new things, and she is really good at explaining some unfamiliar products, for example, fermented black beans. She also suggests lots of substitutions so you can figure out how to use things you may have on hand. I also love the nonchalant nature of it, she makes somewhat intimidating dishes feel doable and easy. She is very approachable, flexible and encouraging; I never find myself self-conscious thinking, “uh oh, am I doing this right?”  When I have questions, I feel at ease to just ask her. It’s a fun way to pass a Sunday afternoon!
